The Live Room

The recording space at Hillroad Records is 45 m² large. This is spacious enough for a complete band but intimate enough to maintain eye contact while playing.

The wooden floor, diffusive walls, and absorbent ceiling work together to create a vibrant acoustic with a natural decay. The back wall consists of wooden blocks that scatter the sound beautifully, while the corners feature bass traps to keep the low end under control. The result is a sound that remains open and musical, without any harshness or clutter.

Recording live takes is effortless here. There is a separate amp-room, so guitar amplifiers can be moved out of the live room without losing the feeling of playing together. Through the large window, there is a clear view of each other and the control room. This is ideal for authentic takes with real interaction.

The routing is set up to be practical and flexible. There are three patch panels with twelve channels each leading to the control room, plus extra lines to and from the amp-room. Everything is linked via a high-quality Ghielmetti patch. Each musician has a personal mixer to set up their monitoring exactly as they prefer.

The room feels warm and inviting with plenty of wood, natural light, and space for every instrument. Air conditioning and fresh air circulation are present and certainly important. Everything is aimed at helping musicians focus, relax, and play exactly as they truly sound.
